Recruiter Techniques and Tricks
Recruiter Techniques and Tricks I like to follow recruiter blogs to see what they are up to and their overall mindset on various things.à Afterall, they are a big part of the job search process and understanding what makes them tick helps understand how they fit and can be helpful.à On Dave Mendozas blog I came across a post from Steve Levy about common misconceptions that newbie recruiters have about what recruiting is. and he says he is going to set it straight in 3 posts.à This first post is called Recruiting planning by focusing on the business side (who your targets are).à I liked what Steve had to say here because he has specific examples of some tricks recruiters know to manage some of the competitive intelligence that helps them do their jobs better specifically, knowing what industries and companies are hot, and which are about to (or are tanking). Isnt this something that you should be doing???à Trust me, for all this industry analysis that recruiters are doing to piece together the potential market, they arent going to sit with you for a few hours and give you the run-down.à Remember, they dont work for you.à They work for the client -à you may be a big part of them filling their job or getting a nice commission -à but they arent your best friend (unless you are lucky ;)).à à As far as Ive seen,à they would rather spend time doing something moving towards their commission than giving you the 411 on stuff you should already know. So just what doesà Steve tell other recruiters to do?à à Youà need toà read the whole article here because reading it from his perspective helps you understand what a recruiter is to you (and how they work).à à Iveà picked out some specific tools that he recommends to really know where things are at: Get the financial low-down at the New York Times Interactive Sector Snapshotà this is a veryà cool tool that financial geeksà must love, butà if you are looking at different sectors to move into (or wonderingà how yours is doing) you need to check it out Yahoo Financeà allows you to create financial portfolios that you can track not just for your personal investmentsà anymore consider this to measure/monitor the health of that new industry youve been eyeing!à In addition toà various e-mail lists you can get onà you canà check out MarketWatchà for another perspective and source of information. I think you get the point others that care about finding people jobs are using tools like this to seeà where the jobs are, or where talent might be comingà from (thats the point of Steves post remember, he is a recruiter telling other recruiters where to find talent) butà know that these tools areà available to you also.à Thisà can help in a career transition or inà actually doing your job (getting competitive intelligence) good luck!à Recruiter Techniques and Tricks I like to follow recruiter blogs to see what they are up to and their overall mindset on various things.à Afterall, they are a big part of the job search process and understanding what makes them tick helps understand how they fit and can be helpful.à On Dave Mendozas blog I came across a post from Steve Levy about common misconceptions that newbie recruiters have about what recruiting is. and he says he is going to set it straight in 3 posts.à This first post is called Recruiting planning by focusing on the business side (who your targets are).à I liked what Steve had to say here because he has specific examples of some tricks recruiters know to manage some of the competitive intelligence that helps them do their jobs better specifically, knowing what industries and companies are hot, and which are about to (or are tanking). Whether youre the manager of a team or a member of one, if you feel like your office space is flat, boring and dreary, and in serious need of some sprucing up, its likely that workers attitudes are following suit. To get some morale back in the office, why not try adding these things to it? Theyre all cheap and super easy what are you waiting for? 1. Coffee The smell of coffee is amazing! Artwork Often when it comes to livening up a workspace, the writings on the walls Are yours bare? Or worse, littered with unevenly-hung corporate printouts from the eighties? If so, its time to invest in some colourful, inspirational and motivational pieces to brighten things up a bit. You dont have to fork out millions for designer pieces, just get creative with posters, pictures, world maps or fun finds from a second-hand store. https://www.instagram.com/p/BNGKCPlAx3S/?tagged=worldmapart 6. Personalisation, personalisation, personalisation! When you walk into an office, you want to feel like the people who work there are reflected in the atmosphere and aesthetics. Pick Your Bosses Well - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
Pick Your Bosses Well - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Talking to a group of graduating MBA students going for their first job I advised them that itâs important to seek out a good boss, not just a good job. So the question was asked, âWhat makes a good boss?â He (or she): -Tells you what he wants and doesnât want in terms of work behavior; is clear, succinct, with no ambiguity -Does not judge or criticize your character or motive, only behavior -Gives âatta a boyâ pats on the back (literally and figuratively) when you do a job well -Curbs your behavior when you donât do a job well by going back over as many times as necessary, âthis is what I want and this is what I donât wantâ -Letâs you make mistakes -Letâs you correct the mistakes without reprisal so as to learn from the experience -Is as much focused on you doing well as himself doing well -Is consistent in his behavior with everyone -Doesnât lie, steal, or cheat How do you find out if you are going to have a good boss like that? Ask others about the boss if possible but also have the courage to directly question the potential boss yourself with: How do you manage people? What do you do if a subordinate is exceptionally good? What happens when a subordinate makes a mistake? What do you pride yourself in being especially good at? You have to ask in a conversational manner so as not to make the person uncomfortable. But if you donât ask, you wonât know until itâs too late. Iâd rather raise issues now and see their reaction. They will either be intrigued by your questions and therefore you or they will be intimidated. Either way you gather information that you need to know for you to decide if you want to work with that person. Even with that effort, reality is the the best you can do is cross your fingers and say a prayer that youâve got a good one.

Buying Signals In a Job Interview
Buying Signals In a Job Interview Iâve heard this sentiment many times and often felt it myself: âI get so nervous when an interviewer starts finding fault with my experience!âWait a minuteis he really finding fault, or are those objections really âbuying signals?âI always dreaded interview questions such as, âYour experience is X, so why do you think you can do Y?â or âIf youâve done this before, how do you know you wonât get bored doing it again?â I saw this type of question as an objection to my potential employment. In truth, it is an objection, but it need not be an obstacle. Objections are the first step in most buying decisions. And letâs face it, the job interview is the ultimate sales call. Most people who are contemplating a significant purchase raise objections. They seldom buy without having their concerns addressed. The potential employer is like any prospective buyer â" she wants to be sure sheâs not making a mistake. While this knowledge does not eliminate the fear factor, it s hould offer encouragement. These questions are your opportunity to show the value you offer and to differentiate yourself from the competition. The offensive strategy to these types of questions is to develop 40â¦60â¦80⦠âsuccess scenariosâ and responses to questions that have tripped you up in the past, and to practice them until they donât sound rehearsed. You want them to be part of your job interview tool kit so they come to your rescue as soon as an objection surfaces. So, the next time a prospective interviewer delivers an objection, smile genuinely and answer with assurance, knowing that heâs interested enough to share concerns.By Carol White LlewellynWith thanks to Bob Freese for his sales trainingAnd for showing the value of objections Carol White Llewellyn Blog: www.travelmaven.wordpress.comTwitter: http://www.twitter.com/TheTravelMavenLinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/carolwhitellewellyn
